UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — A recent collaborative event by two groups on campus netted roughly 5,700 items for incoming students while saving 471 pounds of food and supplies from the landfill.

The “Dodge the Dumpster” event was sponsored by the Fletcher L. Byrom Earth and Mineral Sciences (EMS) Library Cub Pantry and the EMS Sustainability Council. It netted more than 50 pounds of nonperishable food, kitchen and office supplies, 500 web cameras, 60 headsets and more than 100 personal care items.

Liz Long, Linda Musser and Megan Fletcher, of the EMS library, worked with EMS Sustainability Council student representative Harman Singh to gather items from roughly a dozen pickup points within the College of EMS.

Donated items will be distributed to students in need through the Cub Pantry, which is open during EMS library hours. For more information, visit the EMS library website.
